Madonna’s St. Petersburg Concert Threatened

Madonna once again has taken things too far and pushed some buttons by supporting the recently jailed band “Pussy Riot”. The punk band features Maria Alokhi, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, and Yekaterina Samutsevich who are now facing up to 3 years in prison for staging a “punk prayer” against Russian Orthodox cathedral member Vladmir Putin and inciting “religious hatred”.

In a recent show Madonna dedicated her performance to women’s freedom wearing signature clothing from the band and stripping down to reveal the band name “Pussy Riot” painted on her back. As if that wasn’t enough she took time out of her show to “pray for their freedom”. This, as you can imagine, rustled some feathers angering several Russian conservative groups.

Following Madonna’s performance the U.S. Consulate General in St. Petersburg received information concerning violent threats against Madonna and all spectators at her performance on August, 9th. While Russian authorities are taking extra steps to ensure the safety of all spectators, the U.S. Embassy has encouraged everyone in attendance to the performance to be aware of their surroundings and to note anything suspicious in the vicinity.
